Emsculpt at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery
Two main factors determine the appearance of your abs and buttocks: the location and amount of fat you have, and the size of your muscles.
Emsculpt tackles both aspects. It destroys fat while improving muscle tone for dramatic results.
How it works
Emsculpt’s proprietary technology emits high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) energy that builds muscle and metabolizes fat. During a session, Emsculpt cycles through three settings, each serving a different purpose.
The first and most intense HIFEM pulses force your muscles to tense up in what are called supramaximal contractions. Supramaximal contractions are far more rapid than your muscles can naturally move on their own. Over a half-hour treatment, your muscles will contract around 20,000 times – that’s like doing 20,000 sit-ups in 30 minutes! These super-fast contractions rapidly build muscle fibers, increasing both their volume and strength.
Next, a different pulse rate kills fat cells in a process called lipolysis which naturally metabolizes the fat and expels it from the body.
Lastly, the Emsculpt emits a third pulse that wrings out the lactic acid and blood built up in your muscles after so many rapid contractions. That way, you avoid the immediate sense of “burn” that accompanies intense anaerobic exercise. The Emsculpt technology then cycles through these three phases, repeating until your half-hour session is complete.
After an Emsculpt treatment, some people see immediate results. For others, improvement is more gradual and can continue to develop for 6 months.
Usually, four treatments spread out over 2–3 days are recommended, with follow-up sessions scheduled as necessary. Results typically last for 6 months – however, their longevity depends heavily on your diet and exercise habits both before and after your treatment.

Before and After Photos
Please note the patients featured in these images may have undergone other treatments in conjunction with Emsculpt. This photo gallery does not guarantee that everyone who undergoes Emsculpt body contouring will obtain these or similar results.
Are You a Good Candidate for Emsculpt?
The best candidates for Emsculpt are men and women who are close to their ideal weight and seek to develop a firmer, leaner silhouette. Those who exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet will achieve the best results.
Popular reasons to undergo Emsculpt include:
- Hitting a plateau in your fitness level
- Dealing with stubborn abdominal or lower body fat
- Desire for fuller, rounder buttocks
- Looking to kickstart a new exercise regime
- Building core strength quickly
- Correcting diastasis recti (separation of the ab muscles after pregnancy or weight loss)
However, if you have electronic or metallic surgical implants, including IUDs, and have been told that you cannot undergo MRIs, Emsculpt is likely not the right body contouring solution for you. You also cannot undergo Emsculpt while you are pregnant. Of course, the best way to verify whether Emsculpt is right for you is to schedule a consultation!
What to Expect During Your Emsculpt Treatment
To begin, your clinician will attach the applicator—which resembles a large iron—onto the area to be treated and will turn on the Emsculpt machine. Then, as you become accustomed to the feeling of the electromagnetic pulses, the clinician will adjust the intensity according to how you feel. While some patients do experience discomfort during the session, Emsculpt is not painful.
A day after the procedure, you may experience soreness similar to having completed a lengthy workout. However, Emsculpt has no other associated risks or side effects.
Alternative Treatments
In addition to Emsculpt, we offer several other nonsurgical and surgical body contouring treatments.
Nonsurgical options
CoolSculpting is a noninvasive procedure that uses advanced cooling technology to freeze and kill unwanted fat cells. These cells are then naturally eliminated by the body.
If your concern is sagging skin rather than excess fat, ThermiTight is a minimally invasive skin tightening procedure. It delivers controlled radio frequency waves to the subdermal layer to eliminate skin sagging and wrinkling.
If you’re dealing with both excess skin and fat, BodyTite is another minimally invasive technology that uses radio frequency-assisted lipolysis to firm skin while melting fat.
Surgical procedures
While noninvasive and minimally invasive procedures have come a long way in recent years, surgery still offers the most dramatic body contouring results.
Abdominoplasty, known more commonly as a tummy tuck, tightens the abdominal wall muscles and trims the waistline. If you have excess skin due to extreme weight loss or pregnancy, a tummy tuck may be an effective good option for you.
Liposuction removes excess fat that’s unresponsive to diet or exercise from the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, jowls, cheeks, neck, chest and upper arms. For people with good muscle tone who want to improve their definition, high-def liposuction may be the preferred technique.
Gluteal implants create fuller, rounder buttocks through the insertion of solid silicone implants.
How Much Does Emsculpt Cost?

Emsculpt Body Sculpting FAQ
Is Emsculpt safe?
Emsculpt is considered one of the safest body contouring solutions available today. The only side effects are some muscle soreness the day after your treatment.
What’s the difference between Emsculpt and CoolSculpting?
While CoolSculpting specifically targets fat cells, Emsculpt improves muscle tone to reduce fat naturally. In short, it does more! But if muscle strength isn’t a concern for you, CoolSculpting might be a good option.
How do I prepare for an Emsculpt session?
All you need to do is show up on time! Emsculpt is entirely noninvasive and requires no fasting, halting of medications or any other preparation.
