Your post-weight-loss
body transformation journey

A guide to the surgical procedures available for patients who have lost 50 or more pounds — and how to approach them safely, in sequence.

Before any procedure: reach and maintain your goal weight for 6–12 months. Stable weight is the foundation of lasting results and the best outcomes.

Understanding your tier

More weight lost = more body areas that benefit from skin removal surgery

Tier 1
50–75 lbs lost
  • Abdomen
  • Upper arms
  • Breasts
  • Face & neck
Focused skin laxity in key zones. Typically 2–3 procedures.
Tier 2
75–100 lbs lost
  • Abdomen & waist
  • Upper arms
  • Breasts
  • Hips, thighs & buttocks
  • Face & neck
More surface area affected. Typically 3–4 staged procedures.
Tier 3
100+ lbs lost
  • Abdomen & full torso
  • Upper arms
  • Breasts (often reduction)
  • Full lower body
  • Face & neck
Comprehensive transformation. Typically 4–5+ staged procedures.

Know the difference: Panniculectomy vs. Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

Medically indicated
Panniculectomy
Removes a hanging skin apron (pannus) that causes rashes, infections, or mobility issues. Sometimes covered by insurance with documentation. No muscle repair included.
Cosmetic / reconstructive
Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
Removes excess skin and adds muscle tightening (diastasis repair) plus waist contouring. Provides a more complete aesthetic result. Typically not covered by insurance.

Your surgical journey, step by step

Procedures are staged for safety — allow 3–6 months between each major surgery

Orange badges indicate procedures that can be performed together in a single surgical session. All plans are individualized — your surgeon's assessment determines the final approach.
Tier 1
50–75 lbs lost
Typical: 2–3 procedures
1
Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) or panniculectomy
Abdomen · Waist
Addresses excess abdominal skin and, with abdominoplasty, repairs separated abdominal muscles. Often the first and most impactful procedure in the journey.
Can combine with brachioplasty
Wait 3–6 months before next procedure
2
Brachioplasty (arm lift) + breast lift or augmentation
Upper arms · Breasts
Arm lift removes excess upper arm skin. Breast lift (mastopexy) or augmentation restores volume and position lost with weight. These two procedures share no recovery zone and are commonly combined.
Brachioplasty + breast lift/aug — frequently combined
Wait 3–6 months before next procedure
3
Face and/or neck lift
Lower face · Jawline · Neck
Addresses facial laxity and excess neck skin that accompanies weight loss. Almost always performed as a final, standalone procedure once body work is complete.
Standalone — final procedure
Tier 2
75–100 lbs lost
Typical: 3–4 procedures
1
Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) or panniculectomy
Abdomen · Waist
Same starting point as Tier 1. With greater weight loss, abdominal skin excess and muscle separation are typically more pronounced, making a full abdominoplasty more common.
Can combine with brachioplasty + thigh lift: surgeon discretion
Wait 3–6 months before next procedure
2
Medial thigh lift
Inner thighs
Removes excess inner thigh skin that causes chafing and discomfort. At this tier, inner thigh laxity is common. Full (outer) thigh lift is typically reserved for Tier 3.
Wait 3–6 months before next procedure
3
Brachioplasty + breast lift or augmentation
Upper arms · Breasts
Combined upper body session. Arm lift and breast procedures are safe to perform together — different operative fields, shared anesthesia. Breast augmentation is most common at this tier to restore lost volume.
Brachioplasty + breast lift/aug — frequently combined
Wait 3–6 months before next procedure
4
Face and/or neck lift
Lower face · Jawline · Neck
Final procedure in the journey. Addresses residual facial and neck laxity once all body contouring is complete and the patient is fully recovered.
Standalone — final procedure
Tier 3
100+ lbs lost
Typical: 4–5+ procedures
1
Panniculectomy or tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
Abdomen · Waist
At this tier, panniculectomy is often medically necessary and is sometimes covered by insurance. Full abdominoplasty with muscle repair is frequently recommended for the most complete abdominal result.
Wait 3–6 months before next procedure
2
Lower body lift (belt lipectomy)
Abdomen · Hips · Outer thighs · Buttocks
A circumferential procedure that lifts and tightens the entire lower trunk in one operation. Typically performed after abdominal work is healed. Planned as a standalone due to operative time and recovery scope.
Standalone procedure — significant recovery
Wait 3–6 months before next procedure
3
Full thigh lift (medial + lateral)
Inner and outer thighs
At 100+ lbs lost, both inner and outer thigh skin excess is typically present. A full thigh lift addresses both zones for complete lower extremity contouring.
Wait 3–6 months before next procedure
4
Brachioplasty + breast reduction or lift
Upper arms · Breasts
At Tier 3, breast reduction is more commonly recommended — significant weight loss often results in substantial breast tissue requiring reshaping alongside a lift. Arm lift is safely combined in the same session.
Brachioplasty + breast reduction/lift — frequently combined
Wait 3–6 months before next procedure
5
Face and/or neck lift
Lower face · Jawline · Neck
The final chapter of the transformation journey. Significant weight loss affects facial volume and neck laxity — a facelift or neck lift completes the head-to-toe result.
Standalone — final procedure
