What Is Botox?

Botox, or botulinum toxin type A, is an injectable that helps improve the appearance of facial lines, wrinkles, and creases caused by repeated facial expressions, sometimes called dynamic wrinkles.

This FDA-approved cosmetic treatment PREVENTS NERVE ACTIVITY in the areas where injected, relaxing your muscles and thus reversing signs of aging in the face. It can be also used preventatively to stop wrinkles from forming in the first place.

Benefits

Botox Cosmetic can be used to target:

  • Crow’s feet (wrinkles at the outer corners of the eyes)
  • Forehead lines (lines on your forehead caused by raising your eyebrows)

Because of the unique characteristics of the botulinum neurotoxin, Botox has a number of potential uses, both cosmetic and medical. The FDA-approved uses for Botox are:

Wrinkle reduction and prevention

Botox improves the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines to give you a more youthful appearance. It can also prevent facial wrinkles; if you’re interested in preventative Botox, it’s a good idea to start in your late 20s or early 30s.

Muscle spasms

Prescription Botox can also be used for muscle spasms in the neck. It works by preventing nerves from signaling to the spasming muscle.

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

Botox injections can inactivate overproducing sweat glands. They’re typically performed on the underarms and palms

Overactive bladder

Botox is also approved for use in people with an overactive bladder to reduce the constant urge to use the bathroom.

Lazy eye

Botox may also be used to help correct LAZY EYE or strabismus. It freezes certain muscles around the eye to help correct the alignment of the affected eye.

Migraine

Botox blocks the signaling of nerves that causes MIGRAINES. It’s injected at various points around the scalp and neck to alleviate pain and reduce frequency of migraine events.

I have been a client at ACS for many years now (since 2016 possibly?). Over the years, I have had multiple procedures done including: earlobe repair by Dr. McFadden after my daughter pulled my earring out, botox & lip filler by a few different nurses, and a breast augmentation by Dr. Felice. First and foremost, Shaina at the front desk is incredible. She has always been welcoming, responsive, and extremely helpful. I look forward to seeing her when I come into the office. You can tell the team at ACS has a "work fam" type of culture, and they do not hesitate to extend that feeing to their clients. Dr. Felice has been beyond exceptional and I truly could not be happier with my results and care I received by him, the surgical team, and staff. I am a little over a year post op from my BA, and everything just keeps looking better and better. You can tell he really takes pride in his work/technique and loves his career. I highly recommend anyone and everyone to Advanced every chance I get :)

I recently had the pleasure of working with Dr. Felice at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery, who has performed breast augmentation, lip filler, and Botox for me. As a busy mom in my mid-30s, I was nervous about undergoing cosmetic surgery, but Dr. Felice put me at ease from the moment I met him. During our initial consultation, Dr. Felice took the time to thoroughly explain the procedure and answer all of my questions. He listened carefully to my concerns and goals, and worked with me to develop a personalized plan that would achieve the results I was looking for. On the day of the procedure, Dr. Felice and his team were incredibly professional and made sure I was comfortable every step of the way. The breast augmentation was done with precision, and Dr. Felice chose the perfect implant size and shape to achieve the natural look I wanted. The lip filler and Botox injections were also done with great skill, and I am thrilled with the results. Throughout the entire process, Dr. Felice was always available to answer any questions or concerns I had. His bedside manner is second to none, and I felt completely supported and cared for every step of the way. Now, several months post-procedure, I am thrilled with the results. My breasts look and feel incredibly natural, and the lip filler and Botox have given me the subtle enhancements I was looking for. I feel more confident and beautiful than ever before, and I owe it all to Dr. Felice. If you're considering plastic surgery, I would highly recommend Dr. Felice. His skill, professionalism, and caring approach make him an exceptional plastic surgeon. Thank you, Dr. Felice, and the team at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery for helping me feel like the best version of myself!

I recently moved here from Philadelphia and was worried I wouldn't find a replacement place that would measure up to my previous team of cosmetic related professionals. After reading the reviews, I made an appointment at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and since then, I visited a few times and have been very pleased with my results. I've found the entire team to be very friendly and welcoming. I've seen both Morgan and Tanya now and they are very professional, kind and honest and keep me looking good without over-doing it. I love that I can buy a filler and bank what I don't use for a future visit While the cost of botox is on the higher side, it's worth the piece of mind to know you're getting great results consistently.

How long does Botox last?

Botox lasts for 3–4 months before its effects begin to wear off. At that point, you’ll need regular touch-up appointments to maintain your new look.

The most common SIDE EFFECTS of Botox include swelling, bruising, and redness. These side effects are typically mild and resolve quickly.

What are the common side effects of Botox?

Who shouldn’t get Botox?

You shouldn’t get Botox if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have a neurological disorder or if you’re allergic to cow’s milk.

What age should you start Botox?

There’s no single answer. For preventative Botox, many providers recommend starting in your late 20s or early 30s, especially if you’re wrinkle-prone. But you can achieve beautiful results no matter when you choose to start receiving Botox.

  • DERMAL FILLERS: These injectable gels reduce the appearance of wrinkles, but they can also be used as lip fillers and as a way to help optimize your facial contours. They may last longer than Botox.
  • JEUVEAU: Jeuveau is a neurotoxin that also paralyzes the facial muscles to prevent frown lines. It’s generally less expensive than Botox.
  • XEOMIN: This Botox alternative is considered less likely to create a tolerance in your muscles, making it ideal for long-term use.

Botox is simple and quick. Your provider will map out exactly where to place the injections–often, at the exact site or sites of your wrinkles, pain or other symptoms.

They’ll then administer a series of injections at these predetermined points. The injections feel like a small, quick pinch–you can request a numbing cream if you’re worried about discomfort. Afterward, you may have some small bumps at the injection sites that subside in 20-30 minutes.

Recovery and aftercare

There is no downtime or recovery time associated with Botox injections. As soon as you leave the office, you can resume your normal activities and your typical skincare routine.

For the next 24 hours, do not rub or massage the areas where you received your injections; this can cause the botulinum toxin to migrate and affect your results. For the same reason, avoid intense exercise for 24 hours after Botox.

Cost of Botox in Greenville, SC

The cost of Botox treatments depends on a number of factors, like how many areas you want to treat with each session and how many units of Botox you’ll need.
