Renuvion is a cosmetic procedure that uses plasma energy to tighten loose, sagging skin.
Whether it’s caused by weight loss or as a result of the natural aging process, wrinkled, loose skin is a cosmetic concern for many of our clients. One popular minimally invasive solution is Renuvion, a technology that uses plasma energy to tighten and revitalize lax, aging skin.
Located in Greenville, SC, Advanced Cosmetic Surgery is your destination for Renuvion skin tightening in the Upstate. Learn more about Renuvion by BOOKING A CONSULTATION with one of our experts.
What Is Renuvion?
Renuvion, previously known as J-Plasma, uses plasma energy to tighten loose skin. A thin tube is inserted beneath the skin’s surface to deliver a stream of helium gas energized with radio frequency energy which briefly and rapidly heats the target area. This heat causes loose or sagging skin to contract, instantly reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
In the months following treatment, your skin will produce higher levels of collagen, a key protein for skin elasticity and firmness, and your results will continue to develop and improve.
Renuvion can be performed on its own or as a non-FDA-approved adjunct treatment to a surgical procedure such as liposuction or a tummy tuck.
Benefits
Renuvion benefits include:
- Immediate tightening and firming of skin
- Improved skin thickness and quality
- Fewer lines and wrinkles
- Long-lasting results
Renuvion is FDA-approved for skin tightening on the lower face and neck. We also use it off-label for many other areas of the body, including the:
- Abdomen and sides
- Back
- Buttocks
- Knees
- Upper arms
- Upper thighs
Why We Use Renuvion for Skin Tightening
Renuvion is a one-of-a-kind, highly precise technology first developed for general surgical settings. It’s the only device on the market approved for plasma-based skin tightening, and as a standalone treatment, it generates the best results possible without more invasive surgery.

Is Renuvion painful?
During treatment, you’ll be under general anesthesia or oral sedation. The type of anesthesia used depends on several factors including how extensive the treatment is, the area being treated and whether Renuvion is being performed alongside a surgical procedure.
Afterward, you’ll either be prescribed medication or take an over-the-counter pain medication.
Is Renuvion safe for all skin tones?
Yes, Renuvion is can be safely performed on all skin tones.
Will I have scars after treatment?
With Renuvion, your scars will be virtually invisible – in fact, this procedure is sometimes called a scarless surgery.
Ideal Candidates for Renuvion
Renuvion is an effective solution for healthy men and women of all ages with mild-to-moderate skin laxity.
If you have very loose skin or excess skin due to rapid weight loss, while not FDA-approved, Renuvion in conjunction with another BODY CONTOURING PROCEDURE can be more effective than Renuvion on its own.
What to Expect From Your Renuvion Treatment
First, you’ll SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons to ensure your candidacy. They’ll provide you with instructions for preparing for treatment, including discontinuing certain medications and making lifestyle changes such as stopping smoking.
During your Renuvion procedure, you’ll receive either a local anesthetic or general anesthesia, depending on how extensive the treatment is and whether another procedure is being performed at the same time.
Your plastic surgeon will make small incisions at the treatment site or sites and insert a cannula, which delivers helium plasma to briefly heat and instantly tighten the skin. This heat will be administered throughout the treatment area, then the cannula will be removed and the incisions sutured closed. On average, a Renuvion procedure takes about 1 hour.
Recovery and aftercare
Afterwards, you’ll experience soreness, swelling and bruising at the incision sites. Follow all instructions from your provider with regard to changing bandages and caring for your incisions. Patient recovery times vary, but are typically in the range of 2–3 weeks.
