What is Blepharoplasty?
- Eyelid surgery can correct several cosmetic and functional issues around the eyes, such as drooping eyelids that affect vision and under-eye bags that develop with aging.
- It can also create double eyelid folds in East Asian patients who are born without an upper eyelid crease.
- This procedure can be paired with a brow lift to open and define the eyes further.
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a versatile procedure used to correct several concerns around the eyes.
For people with severely drooping upper eyelids, a condition known as dermatochalasis, functional blepharoplasty can increase your field of vision. As a cosmetic procedure, cosmetic lower-lid blepharoplasty can eliminate under-eye bags caused by aging or genetics to create a younger appearance. For patients without a crease between the upper eyelid and brow, East Asian blepharoplasty can create one.

Eyelid Surgery at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery
Blepharoplasty is highly customized to each patient’s unique needs. It can be performed on the upper, lower or both lids to give the eyes a more youthful, wide-awake look, broaden your field of vision, eliminate under-eye bags or create an upper eyelid crease.
How it works
The surgeon makes one or two incisions per eyelid: an internal incision in the lower lid for lower lid surgery, an external one in the fold of the upper lid for upper lid surgery or both. The surgeon then excises unwanted fat and skin from the area around the eye, adding internal sutures to further tighten the eye muscles in the case of severe ptosis (drooping). The incisions are then closed using stitches or surgical tape. Scars from external incisions will be naturally hidden by the eyelid.
Double eyelid surgery
East Asian blepharoplasty, commonly known as double eyelid surgery, involves constructing a fold between the eyebrows and lash line. The surgeon makes a short incision on the upper eyelid, then makes a series of stitches to attach the skin to the muscle layer at the desired height, replicating the attachments found in people who naturally have double lids. Additional internal sutures are placed on the center and corners of the lid. Epicanthoplasty, a procedure to reposition the epicanthal fold at the inner fold of the eye, can be performed concurrently.

Advanced Cosmetic Surgery Reviews
I would recommend this clinic a thousand times, I have had two surgeries here!!! with my dr Peter Felice!! He is the best, God bless his hands!! You can operate with it with your eyes closed! You will never feel pain!! love this clinic!
For years I've seen a lot of my friends have Botox done & I thought to myself there was no way I'd ever do that but then I started to see crow's feet around my eyes. I have been blessed with good genes which has allowed me to not do anything cosmetically until 2 years ago at the age of 42. It's always hard to have anything done to your face but they did a great job!
Botox is the Best Thing I Have Ever Done - Greenville, SC - I am a 37 year old female with two teenagers and noticed lines between my brows and crows feet over 2 years ago. It began to bother me b/c even when I was looking straight ahead or when I woke up I had deep indention's in between my brows. had Botox to correct/stop lines around my eyes (crowfeet) and in between my brows. I have now done this 5 times over the last year and a half, I go about every 3 to 4 months. I love it b/c it is not immediately noticeable, it slowly stops the lines in between my brows and lines by my eyes over 3-4 days. They offer Botox coupons where you get money off depending on the amount of Botox given, the minimum is $20.00 given to your account and they keep up with this, they also have a various amount of specials run monthly. I have no cons at all and would recommend Dr. McFadden from Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and his staff to anyone who asks or I tell about them.
I have been seeing Dr. Felice for quite some time for my Botox injections. His attention to detail, and the way he achieves such natural looking results made me certain he was the surgeon for me when I got ready to have Upper Blepharoplasty. It was SO EASY! Under local, right in the office, and in an hour! I felt absolutely zero discomfort during the procedure and did not require pain medicine after. This was such a piece of cake! I’m 6 weeks out now, and my results are stunning! Truly! I am amazed and so pleased every time I look in the mirror. I feel so pretty!! ALSO, I can’t believe how much better I can see! Imagine everywhere you look is a 5x7 photo when everyone is seeing the 8x10 full frame! And now I do too! There’s so much blue sky up there! It’s crazy to me that I have thought for so many years that my eyelashes grew downward. Nope! It was actually my excess skin on the lid sitting down on them that pushed them downward. If you are considering this procedure, just do it! I am SO glad I did!

Are You a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?
Ideal candidates for traditional eyelid surgery are adults in good health with drooping or uneven eyelids or under-eye bags. East Asian blepharoplasty can be performed on any adult in good health lacking an upper lid crease.
If you have high blood pressure, thyroid problems or diabetes, the risks of undergoing this surgery are greater. TALK TO OUR TEAM to find out if you’re a good candidate for blepharoplasty.

Frequently Asked Questions
Blepharoplasty FAQ
How much does eyelid surgery cost?
Cosmetic eyelid surgery costs will vary based on whether you are having an upper eyelid lift, lower, or both. Once your surgical plan has been decided in your initial consultation, Dr. McFadden can go over estimated costs. For results that look natural and last a long time, it is better to focus on selecting an experienced Plastic Surgeon whom you trust, like Dr. McFadden, instead of looking for the lowest cost. To help you afford a great eyelid lift, Advanced Cosmetic Surgery accepts many payment methods, including low-interest medical financing.
Can I use insurance to pay for my eyelid surgery?
If loose skin is limiting your sight, your insurance might pay for part of your eyelid lift. Please tell Dr. McFadden in your consultation if you might be applying for an insurance claim. A team member at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery will help you submit the needed paperwork and information to your provider to consider your claim. Typically, you will require a diagnosis from an ophthalmologist or optometrist that an eyelid lift is medically necessary to restore your field of vision.
What are some other benefits of an eyelid lift?
An eyelid lift not only helps to refresh your appearance, but it can also improve other aspects of your life. You may find your field of vision is greater once loose skin from your upper eyelid is removed. It is also easier to apply eye shadow and other makeup when your upper lid is smooth. Eliminating fine lines, paper-thin skin, puffy bags, and dark circles under your eyes can help your eyes look fuller and brighter without cosmetics.
Will an eyelid lift fix wrinkles and Crow's feet?
Wrinkles on your forehead and the corners of your eyes (Crow's feet) may be better corrected with a facelift or brow lift because the improvements of eyelid surgery are confined to the upper or lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery may also be performed with a nonsurgical treatment like BOTOX, which combats wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead. An injectable filler can also be effective because it adds volume for a smoother appearance. In your consultation, Dr. McFadden will create your personal treatment plan to fit your goals.
What about nonsurgical treatments instead of eye surgery?
Skin tightening without surgery plus injectable wrinkle treatments (like BOTOX, Restylane, and Juvéderm) may give you mild improvements. Although, if you want to fix moderate to severe sagging skin or would like to see long-lasting results, an eyelid lift is better for your needs. When you have talked to Dr. McFadden about your concerns and goals, He can explain His recommendations for a nonsurgical or surgical treatment plan. He may also suggest both surgical and nonsurgical procedures for your best results.
Is blepharoplasty safe?
Eyelid surgery is considered a very safe procedure with few associated complications. However, potential risks and side effects include:
- Bleeding
- Dry or irritated eyes
- Infection
- Injury to eye muscles
- Loss of eyesight (rare)
- Need for follow-up surgery
- Noticeable scars
- Problems closing the eyes
- Temporary blurred vision
Can I watch TV after getting blepharoplasty?
Wait 2–3 days after surgery before watching television, using the computer or reading, as your eyes will tire rapidly.
Can I drive after getting blepharoplasty?
You can drive once you are off pain medication and feeling well enough to do so. For most people, this is about 1 week after surgery.
What to Expect Before, During and After Your Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure, meaning you’ll go home the same day. Surgery itself is a quick procedure and most people recovery in a week’s time.
Before surgery, you’ll meet with your surgeon to discuss your medical history, especially any conditions related to eye health, such as glaucoma, dry eye or allergies. You’ll undergo a physical examination during which the doctor may test your tear production, measure your eyelids and photograph them from multiple angles.
One week before the procedure, you must avoid alcohol, smoking and taking blood-thinning medications such as aspirin.
For the procedure itself, you’ll be given a local anesthetic and usually oral sedation. The operation typically lasts about 45 minutes. You’ll need someone to drive you home.
After surgery, you may experience:
- Light sensitivity
- Numbness
- Pain
- Swelling and bruising similar to a black eye
- Temporary blurred vision
You’ll need to frequently ice your eyelids to reduce swelling, especially during the first 24 hours.
For 2 weeks afterward, avoid:
- Aspirin and ibuprofen
- Dirty or dusty activities, such as gardening or dusting the house
- Exposure to direct sunlight
- Getting your hair colored or permed
- Rubbing your eyes
- Smoking
- Strenuous activity, including jogging and swimming
- Wearing contact lenses
- Wearing eye makeup
Your eyelids will be fully healed in 10–14 days, at which point the results of the operation will be visible.
Results of blepharoplasty are long lasting. Although the natural aging process may cause your eyelids to droop again in the future, the results will last for many years. In the case of East Asian blepharoplasty, results are permanent.
Complementary Treatments
Many of our patients elect to undergo another surgery at the same time as their blepharoplasty. Doing so reduces your overall recovery time.
- Brow lift: Eyelid surgery can’t address excess fat or skin on the eyebrows. Pairing your blepharoplasty with a brow lift makes your eyes appear more open, reduces frown lines on the forehead and eliminates a worried expression caused by overhanging skin
- FACELIFT: A facelift can correct sagging skin around the cheeks, jawline and eyes to further rejuvenate your appearance
- FILLERS: Fillers contour your face in various ways, including filling in hollows below the eyes that may exacerbate the look of eye bags
How Much Does Blepharoplasty Cost?
The cost of eyelid surgery depends on the severity of the problem being addressed, the type of surgery and many more factors. For information on our pricing, CONTACT US via phone or email.
